v2.0.0

this is probably the biggest update since the original release. Hope you all enjoy. BTW it takes an hour to get all my data now. So thats nice

New Additions

this one is massive guys. CHALLONGE. TOURNAMENTS. ARE. INTERGRATED!!!!!! If you've played in a challonge tournament then they're going to count towards your ranking. There is a catch though. You can only get points for playing in challonge tournaments if your challonge name is EXACTLY the same as your start.gg name. This is a limitation thats inherent with the technique I use to gather data, and will likely never change.

This is a hidden change but every set thats played on challonge is recorded in another database table. This may or may not be used later.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If ANY does not have a recorded score then the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT gets thrown out. This is to prevent rankings from being skewed due to poor data entry (LOOKING AT YOU CEO26) or DQs

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed null challonge set scores

v1.1.2

WHOOOOS READY FOR ANOTHER FATERANK UPDATE?????????? (NOBODY!)

New Additions

They're invisble to you as a user but to me as a developer, THEY'RE MASSIVE. this new update brings two new things. A start.gg rewrite (for more stable code and more sanity on my end) and it sets the foundation for a CHALLONGE INTERGRATION!!!!!! I know everyone wanted that oh so much so I'm finally delivering. Challonge sets don't exactly count for ranking yet due to the fact that every challonge event for some reason has one set that doesnt count. I genuinely have no clue why, but I'm looking into it

BRUHHH THOSE WHO KNOW????? WHATS COMING OUT FIRST GTA 6 OR OBS PLAYER POPUP??!?!?!?!?!?!

v1.1.1

Woooow a new update two(three?) days after the last one. Very cool.

New Additions

You can now paste entire start.gg user URLs into the tool and it will extract the slug for you. This wasn't a feature at launch because I forgot to add it.

Added some text that says when the data for the database was collected.

Ranking Methodology Changes

Nothing Particularly changed this update but I added the option to exclude sets if they were reported incorrectly. If you think that someones game was reported incorrect please mention the Worst T.O twitter account (@RealWorstTo) and I'll correct it. The notable thing that would cause a set to be reported incorrectly is if a T.O just marks who won instead of marking the set score.

I wrote this in like a weekend with the mindset of "oh this is a small project its cool if the code looks like shit." Past me was stupid.

v1.1.0

Hello all, this is the first update to faterank after it originally dropped. I would've updated sooner but I was unfortunately really busy this week

New Additions

The brand new CONFIDENCE COLUMN! this isn't anything complex. It just counts how many sets they've played this year up to 100. Its basically just there to show how much you can trust their ranking. Please note that the confidence column does not tell you if they should be seeded above where they are or below where they are. So please look at their results and come up with your own conclusions.

Ranking Methodology Changes

Originally, the ranking system would count each game the same regardless of if you won 3-2 or 3-0. Naturally, this led to a skew in data based off of who plays the game the most rather than who showed up and preformed the best. To try to fix this, I've updated the system so now you gain elo based off of the score difference of a set. I can't really think of a way to explain this aside from to give an example So lets say we have Player1 vs Player2. Player 1 wins the set 3-1. We calculate the win difference between the two players in the set which gives us 2. Using that we update their glicko ranking 2 times (Recording Player 1 as winning 2 times and Player 2 as losing 2 times). I've ran this seeding algorithim across the first two weeks of No More Fundies (NMF, join here) and it seems to be *relativelly* accurate. There are some players that aren't really represented well by the algorithim. The main example I saw was Serene Smile. They're currently around the top 120 according to this algorithim (primarily because they have less than ideal results from this year) but they placed 2nd in NMF #2 which is FAAR from where the algorithim predicted they'd place (5th place) I'll spend time looking into ways to remedy things like this but for now, just remember to take the underdogs with a grain of salt.
